While the show itself is hilarious, this Rumpelstiltskin is originally featured in a fairy tale which is in my opinion quite grim & graphic. Just take a look at the end of the fairy tale--the conversation below is between the queen & him:
At first she said, "Is your name Conrad?"

"Is your name Harry?"

"Perhaps your name is Rumpelstiltskin?"
