Meg White

Megan Martha White (born December 10, 1974 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan) is best known as the drummer and backing vocalist of Detroit alternative rock duo The White Stripes.

Jack White spent much of the 1990s (and the early part of their marriage) hopping from band to band, but in 1997, Meg first tried playing drums. In Jack's words, "When she started to play drums with me, just on a lark, it felt liberating and refreshing. There was something in it that opened me up." The young couple then began calling themselves the White Stripes and soon played their first gig at the Gold Dollar in Detroit. In keeping live performances to three basic elements, Jack did the guitar and vocal work while she played drums. They divorced in 2000 (before becoming nationally famous) but the band survived.

Though Jack White (the duo's guitarist and songwriter) usually sings the lead vocals, Meg White sings lead on "In the Cold, Cold Night", from the band's fourth album, Elephant; "Passive Manipulation", from the band's fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan; "Who's a Big Baby", the B-side to "Blue Orchid"; and "St Andrew (This Battle is in the Air)", from the band's sixth album Icky Thump. Both Meg and Jack sing vocals on the track "Well It's True That We Love One Another" from Elephant. For his part, Jack White has declared her to be the key component in the White Stripes' sound. In reference to her "primal" approach to drumming, she remarked, "That is my strength. A lot of drummers would feel weird about being that simplistic."

White has appeared on the cover of Whirlwind Heat's single Pink, in a Detroit Cobras music video "Cha Cha Twist" as Little Red Riding Hood, and appeared with Jack White in a segment of Jim Jarmusch's 2003 film Coffee and Cigarettes.

On October 7, 2005, a picture posted on the Nine Inch Nails website of White with the band led to speculation that she replaced drummer Jerome Dillon, but two hours later, the photo was replaced with one of the band with Alex Carapetis. The significance of the photo featuring White is unclear, as she was never officially announced to be Nine Inch Nails' drummer, nor has any other explanation been given regarding the photo.

Fulfilling a longtime dream, Jack and Meg White guest starred on the long-running animated TV series The Simpsons in an episode titled "Jazzy and the Pussycats", which first aired on September 17, 2006. She has done some modeling for Marc Jacobs' 2006 Spring line. Two of her pictures appeared in the March 2006 issue of ELLE.

Meg White was chosen by Comedian/Director Bob Odenkirk to compose a drum theme for one of his characters in the film Let's Go to Prison, which was released in November 2006.

BARACK'S HISTORIC SPEECH AT DNC

More than 38 Million Americans tune into to watch Senator Barack Obama accepted his historic Presidential Democratic nomination. (Barack became the first African-American to be officially nominated as a candidate for U.S president by a major party.)

84,000 squeezed into Denver's Invesco Field to hear what Barack had to say. Ironically, Barack's speech was done on the 45th anniversary of MLKJr's "I Have A Dream" speech...

In A Word...Fab has Barack's speech transcript!

Michelle shocked plenty of her fashion-obsessed fans when she stepped out in this Thakoon Resort 2009 dress.

Michelle for the first time did NOT wear a design from Maria Pinto. Michelle instead rock her printed dress with three Erickson Beamon broaches. Thakoon Panchiqul was delighted about Michelle's dress choice: "I am incredibly honored that Michelle Obama chose to wear a dress from my collection on such a historical night for her, her family and this country." [FWD]

Afterwards Barack was joined by his family and vice president running mate Joe Biden on the stage...

Jennifer Hudson ripped (re: did the damn thing) the National Anthem as requested by Barack. What do you think?

Yesterday was Michael Jackson's 50th birthday. He made a rare phone interview with "Good Morning America". Here are a few of his accomplishments that I'm happy to be apart. I may be half his age technically but my earliest moment of MJ started right around his "Bad" era but I grew up to appreciate his "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" records. Sit back and enjoy the King of Pop at his very best...

OSI'S OUT & MICHELLE O AT DNC

My jaw dropped when I read the following headline from The Happy Go Lucky Bachelor blog, "Damn it! Osi Umenyiora out of season!" Talk ABOUT when bad things happen to good folks, huh?! Damn...

An MRI today revealed that Giants DE Osi Umenyiora suffered serious ligament damage Saturday night against the Jets and will be forced to undergo surgery, which will probably knock him out for the entire season.

There was some talk about whether to do the short-term rehab or the surgery, but in the end, the Giants opted for surgery to make sure Umenyiora will be better off in the long run. [source/credit: NJ.COM]

Michelle Obama, in a teal Maria Pinto dress and her own personal silver star Erickson Beamon brooch, gave a reviving speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Michelle used her platform to talk about her humble beginnings, her husband Senator Barack Obama, and children Malia & Natasha.

I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president.I come here as a Mom whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world — they’re the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning, and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night. Their future — and all our children’s future — is my stake in this election.

And I come here as a daughter — raised on the South Side of Chicago by a father who was a blue collar city worker, and a mother who stayed at home with my brother and me. My mother’s love has always been a sustaining force for our family, and one of my greatest joys is seeing her integrity, her compassion, and her intelligence reflected in my own daughters. Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker had a great time at their former "Soul Food" co-star Malinda Williams' wedding over the weekend at Newark's The Messanine. (Nicole was one of Malinda's bridemaids...and here is the advice Nicole had to offer to Malinda: "Enjoy each other fully and let one another know how much you enjoy one another, because remembering to appreciate your mate doesn't mean you remember to really enjoy the life, love and romance you have together.") Malinda tied the knot to her long time boyfriend Derrick "DJ D-Nice" Jones...CONGRATS!

Boris Kodjoe dropped by Wendy Williams' successful FOX daytime show to talk about his daughter Sophia who has Spina Bifida.

Boris and his wife Nicole Ari Parker announced plans to raise $1.88 million dollars for children with Spina Bifida. Check out this open letter Boris and Nicole wrote in support of their cause:

We hope you are well. We are writing this letter to share with you a most personal issue and ask for your help. As some of you already heard, our little Sophie was diagnosed at birth with Spina Bifida, the most common birth defect in the US, affecting the brain and/or spine in an average of eight babies a day. Degrees of severity vary from quadriplegic children with major brain damage and spinal injuries to cases of neurogenic bladders or even lesser issues.

We were blessed with a miracle child and spared of the more severe symptoms, but Sophie’s spastic bladder still forces us to catheterize her every three hours, day and night, to avoid pressure build up in her bladder and urine backflow into her kidneys. But frequent catheterization causes urinary tract infections, which are then battled with strong antibiotics, which in turn attack stomach flora and cellular balance, cause bowel issues, and that leads to more infections.

Read the rest of the open letter over at Black Celeb Kids.

Beijing Olympics Closing Ceremony

Gak kalah kerennya dr opening ceremony !! Memang closing kali ini cuma perlu waktu 2 jam,, sedangkan opening nya perlu 4 jam. Tapi gak apa2”, penontonnya jg puas koqq. Tiket ajah udah sold out dr bulan lalu !!

China tuh memang negara hebat !! Bisa2”nya nyelengara’in acara spektakuler kayak gitu…. Sayang yah gw gak ada di Beijing… I luwbh olympiad so much !! Gw pengeeend bgt beli souvenir2” olimpiade nya. Boneka Fuwa,, baju2” resmi olimpiade… Smuanya deh pengen gw borong !!

Memang sieh,, slama ini selalu ada kronfrontasi trz, jg gosip2” tentang China… Yg mau di-boikot lah, kasus Lin Miaoke, juga kembang api palsu lah.. Pokoknya smua berita murahan laennya, gak akn m’halangi China u/ trz jd negara yg kuat, hebat, jg tangguh !!

Org2” yg nyebarin gosip gak penting, & m’hina China,, menurut gw cuma org2” yg sirik !! Sirik karena gak bisa se-hebat itu… Banyangin aja deh,, China tuh udah dihina abis2”an, juga kena musibah trz,, tapi tetep ajah hebat !! Mereka gak cuma punya modal yg besar u/ olimpiade (bisa hampir 400trilyun lho),, tapi jg nunjukkin prestasi !! Mereka jd juara umum khand? Itu baru yg namanya juara dunia !! Dgn p’olehan emas t’byk pastinya…

U/ bikin acara spektakuler kyk gt jg perlu kreativitas tinggi !! Juga kerjasama penduduknya.. Lihat ajah para volunteers nya yg sampai 1,4jt org !!
