THE Biggest Loser Asia reality show ended on Tuesday with Indonesia's David Gurnani taking the top prize after losing 83kg.
Weighing in at 74kg, the 1.82m 25-year-old walked away with US$100,000 (S$139,000) and a Renault car.
'I was not sure that I would win, but I knew that I had given everything that I could, so I really thank God for everything,' he tells Life! in a telephone interview from Indonesia two days ago.
The 16 contestants of the weight-loss reality show spent 13 weeks at a villa in A'Famosa Resort in Malacca. There, they were subject to a gruelling exercise regime and had to give up any kind of unhealthy food. Then, they returned home for two months to continue their weight loss before the final weigh-in on Tuesday.
'We had cereal for breakfast and tuna sandwiches for lunch, it was a shock for me,' says Gurnani. 'I would never eat WeetBix cereal at home, it's tasteless. And I wanted noodles or rice for lunch.'
But he slowly got used to the regime, and by the end of the stay-in segment of the reality show, he lost 55kg.
From Straits Times, "Biggest Loser is big winner".
